A trick and game with reality – to those topics, a group exhibition of Slovak artists reacts. It toils with fiction, with the inclination to believing in something and at the same to debunk the sham, with the ability of perception and recognition of optical, spatial and audio games, visual associations. During the exhibition, the spectator becomes a part of the object installations, video projections, scanning, transmission and procedural, site-specific actions based on the principles of space, geometry, lights, and sound, both organic and chemical processes. 19 February KineDok | Tourism! / free entrance

The series of documentary screenings from the KineDok distribution will continue with a film Tourism! (Croatia, 2016, 52´).

Every summer towns and cities on the Croatian coast double their population through the influx of tourists from all over the world. Nowadays, tourism is the most important industry, and in Croatia it often seems to be the only one. Numerous events and facilities appear, at times seemingly out of nowhere, throughout the Adriatic with the aim of enriching our professed tourist offer. Tourism! traces the fragments of various stories along the Croatian coast. Some of the locals catch and farm fish, some prepare it, and some entertain the guests… The life cycle appears never to end; identities, emotions and results transcend towns and locations. Discussion at the end of the movie.

MUSIC

3 February Festival Spectaculare: Nathan Fake/ The Micronaut/ Nobody Listen ft. VR/ Roman Pai / 350 CZK

One of the stars of this year's Spectaculare Festival will be the English ‘techno romantic’ Nathan Fake, the ever-lasting star of the island's electronic scene. The musician associated with the label Border Community was at the beginning of his career inspired by the early wave of trance and minimal techno but his compositions gradually grew into something quite peculiar. In addition to his own albums (Drowning in a Sea of Love, Hard Islands, Steam Days) he also, for example, prepared remixes for Radiohead or John Hopkins.

Sounds of classical instruments started to appear shortly after first releases and led to addition of two more musicians – bass guitarist Zac Brown and drummer Rory O’Connor. The latest album Epoch released this September is an amazing synthesis of electronic music and classical instruments. The fusion is so tight you can barely hear the difference between synthesizer and live musician. Tycho’s live performances are known for unbelievable energy so don’t miss it out. 16 February Bohemian Like You: Weval (NL) + HRTL (CZ) / 290 CZK

Hearing Weval’s music for the very first time, you might think it’s the perfected synth production of a seasoned veteran of electronic scene. It’s quite the opposite – Weval is the brainchild of two incredibly talented youngsters from Netherlands, Harm Coolen and Merijn Scholte, who create a slow-rolling, emotive and highly dynamic music with the taste for danceable drama and epic melodies. Their debut EP “Haf Age” released in 2013 on the legendary Kompakt imprint has set the course for a clever pop & dance beat crossover, further explored on the “Easier” EP a year later, being finally mastered on the band’s last year’s eponymous long-playing debut album. After the release, Harm and Merijn embarked to European stages, currently with a live band with a drummer as during their Czech debut on February 16 at MeetFactory. 27 February Mitski (US) + Personal Best (UK) / 290 CZK

Despite being just 26, the American (of Japanese descent) indie-rock singer Mitski has already released 4 albums. In its simple songs with austere arrangements the New-York-based producer takes on innermost issues – a painful breakup, the search for own identity, life’s everyday routine. With her fresh take such subjects, Mitski won over the both audience and music journalists alike, who nominate “Puberty 2” among the records of the year. Mitski will perform live in Czech Republic for the first time on February 27, 2017 at MeetFactory.
