The first Prague Baroque summer villa was built between 1679-1696 by the French architect and painter Jean Baptist Mathey (also sometimes called Matheus Burgundus). His participation on the construction of the summer palace is documented from 1685, up till then Domenico Orsi led the building work. Worth noting is the large oval shaped outdoor staircase from 1685-1703 decorated with statues representing the victory of Olympic gods over giants by Jan Jiří and Pavel Heermann from Dresden, as well as busts of ancient gods from around the year 1705 from the workshop of Jan Brokof.
The Troja Chateau has a large French styled garden designed by Jiří Seemann after 1698. The balustrades are decorated with large earthenware vases and busts of Roman emperors.
