It was in use until 1967 when a new-built modern Central waste treatment plant (situated on Cisarsky island near the original location of the Old waste water treatment plant) was put into operation. The sewer system and technical parameters of the Old waste water treatment plant were projected by a British civil engineer, Mr. William Heerlein Lindley.

Tours through the historic area of the Old waste water treatment plant
Tours through the historic area of the Old waste water treatment plant are only possible with a guide (the Old waste water treatment plant isn't a typical museum, it's something like a „technique castle“). The visitors can admire historic premises of the museum incl. remains of original technologies for waste water treatment and connected operations (such as sludge management) or for drive of machines (steam-engine room and boiler-room).

To make our tours even more interesting, there are also available some copies of original plans of the building, historical pictures from the start-up phase of the waste water treatment plant construction or a documentary film from 1943 (based on a contract with the National film library). The tour starts with a movie „Water cycle in water management“ („Koloběh vody ve vodárenství“, Veolia) as an introduction to the themes „water supply“ and „sewerage“.

For those who are interested in history of technical buildings and in Prague sewer system, we also prepared a documentary film „Muži pod Prahou“ („Men below Prague“, 1947 – available only upon previous order for groups counting at least 10 persons).

Within other museum events such as „Days of European inheritance“ („Dny evropského dědictví“) we also offer some other programs to introduce the Old waste water treatment plant to our visitors and guests. A lecture (upon concrete request of guests) can be ordered for any term.

Opening hours
Our museum is open every day all year long. The tours start at 11am and 2pm on working days and on 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm at weekends.

For groups counting more than 10 persons we highly recommend to make your reservation in advance.

On June 1, 2010, the Old sewage cleaning plant in Bubeneč, Prague, became a national historic landmark.
