The Petřín park is one of the largest parks in Prague. It was founded in an area that used to be a wood reaching as far as the Bílá Hora. Vineyards were planted here as early as the 12th century. The park was created by the joining up of the Na Nebozízku, Seminářská and Kinská gardens. The gardens are separated by the so-called Hunger Wall.

In the top part of the Petřín park you can see the church of St Vavřinec and the Chapel of the Calvary from 1737 with a stone pulpit and the so-called “Prison of Christ” on the ground-floor. On the occasion of the Jubilee Exhibition the Maze and the Petřín look-out tower were built at the top of the Petřín hill.

A memorial to Karel Hynek Mácha by J.V.Myslbek from 1910-1912 has become a favourite meeting place. It is therefore no wonder that the Petřín park is often considered by Prague citizens to be a lovers’ paradise.
