The exposition presents Czechoslovak, Czech and also Slovak coin mintage and medal production.
For the first time in the history of modern Czech statehood the visitors will find at one place such an extensive and compact collection of Czech coin mintage and medals from precious metals including both production of artists of the independent Czech state and the Czech Republic and Slovakia. They will get acquainted both with the origins of the Czech medallist school represented by works of Otakar Španiel and Josef Šejnosta and production of renowned Czech sculptors of the contemporary times, among others works of the academic sculptor Vladimír Oppl, academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů, academic sculptor Jiří Harcuba, academic sculptor Karel Zeman and also quite original production of Otakar Dušek.
The exposition will provide information about how gold is extracted and manufactured, how its fineness and weight are measured and how gold ingots and mintages are produced.
A part of the exposition is also a presentation of investment gold in a form of gold bullions of various sizes and investment gold mintage. One of the main exhibits is the most beautiful gold piece in the world – the Czech coin New Town of Prague. Its central motive is a portrait of Charles IV. shaped according to a votive desk by Jan Očko of Vlašim and supplemented on the left side by an imperial seal of Charles IV., on the right side by a contemporary seal of the New Town of Prague and at the bottom part a mintage of the Prague groš (cent). The Czech mint will present to a wide public for the very first time a large-scale spectrum of stamping of gold and silver honorary medals, which have left its workshop during the 15 years of its existence. Investment medals from pure gold of 1 kg weight are also shown here.
Nevertheless, the visitors of the exposition “Czech Gold” do not have to admire the handicraft of Czech sculptors and engravers only under the glass of show cases. Selected exhibits will be accessed in such a way that everybody could touch them!
