CZECH BANÁT
The exposition Czech Banát is a fundamental project of Musaion – the Ethnic Exposition of the National Museum for the year 2009. The exhibition will present the results of long-time scientific research of the National Museum in the area of ethnology, but also book culture, natural conditions and other components of life of the Czech minority in Romania. The visitors of the museum will thus have an opportunity to get acquainted for the first time with three-dimensional documents of life of the local Czech community, which has been developing for the period of two hundred years in separation from the Czech majority society, but which has in many features maintained the traditional values of the Czech culture in both material and spiritual areas.

By means of the research of NM we have succeeded in acquiring numerous exceptional objects documenting folk clothing, housing, housekeeping, but also documents of folk art and habits. This unique collection of NM is thus nowadays the only professionally managed museum collection documenting fast disappearing and changing world of the Czech villages in Romanian Banát. Right from this the supporting fund of the exhibition will be chosen, which will cover the whole space of Musaion – both the exposition and meeting hall and lounge for a presentation of unique photographs. The exposition will be supplemented by a range of topical accompanying events, such as meetings of the fellow countrymen, concerts, craft workshops, lectures, tastings of Banát specialties and other similar events. The visitors of Musaion and lovers of Banát in general will have an opportunity to get familiar in more detail with the tradition and contemporaneousness of this exceptionally interesting region above the Danube at the border of Rumania and Serbia – a small piece of faraway land, where, despite all peripetia of destiny of the local people, not only tracks of the Czech traditions, but also pure Czech language have been preserved.
