The first exhibition of a newly reconstructed National Memorial at Vítkov presents a unique photographic archive incurred from activities of the press sector of the Presidium of the Ministry Council in the years 1918 - 1933. The photographic archive served for the purposes of reportage and documentaries and the Archive of the National Museum succeeded in saving it in the year 1972.
The castle photo-archive contains nearly ten thousand of authentic photographic pictures (both in negatives and positives), which record the 15 years of performance of the presidential mandate of Tomáš G. Masaryk. The attention has been paid not only to the official events, but also to many personal moments in the President's life. Besides the pictures devoted directly or indirectly to Masaryk, the archive also provides very detailed evidence of many other aspects of the cultural history of the 1st Republic.
The fund significantly extends recognition of the visual history of the interwar Czechoslovakia, namely due to a big amount of pictures not published yet. The exposition is realised based on a professional elaboration, digitalisation and issue of a photographic book with the same name, a financially supported programme project of the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic. “T. G. Masaryk and his time in front of the objective. The castle photo-archive 1918–1933” solved by the employees of the Archive of the National Museum in the years 2006 - 2008.
